About

Texas BBQ isn’t just food — it’s culture, tradition, and a whole lot of pride.
And around here, not all BBQ is created equal.

I’m Rex Covington, better known as Lone Star Rider. Born and raised in Texas, I grew up knowing the difference between good BBQ and the kind that makes you stop talking mid-bite. The kind where the smoke ring tells the story before you even taste it. The kind that doesn’t need sauce to prove a point. The kind when you take a slice of Brisket that melts in your mouth and you go to heaven!

The Lone Star BBQ Trail is my personal take on the best BBQ in Texas, discovered one town, one pit, and one plate at a time. This isn’t a list built on hype, paid promotions, or tourist traps. It’s built on real smoke, real meat, and real Texas judgment.

What Makes the Cut

I’m looking for:

  • Brisket that bends, not breaks
  • Ribs that pull clean but still fight back
  • Sausage with snap, juice, and flavor
  • Pits run by folks who respect the craft, not shortcuts

If a place cuts corners, overcooks the meat, or hides behind sauce — it won’t make the trail.

No Sponsors. No Sugarcoating.

Some joints are legendary. Some are hidden gems. And some are just coasting on reputation. If it’s on the Lone Star BBQ Trail, it earned it.

This trail is about honest BBQ reviews from a Texan who’s eaten it his whole life, traveled thousands of miles across this state, and isn’t afraid to say when something is just “okay.”

Ride With Me

I roll into towns on two wheels or in my Van, meet the pitmasters, taste what they’re proud of, and tell it like it is. If you’re chasing the real BBQ Texas is known for, you’re in the right place.

Fire up the pits.
Hit the road.
And let’s talk BBQ the Texas way.
